Basic Pistol Shooting Course
Course Goal
To teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely.
Course Lessons
- Pistol Knowledge and Safe Handling
- Ammunition Knowledge and Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
- Firing the First Shots
- Two-handed and One-handed Standing Shooting Positions
- Pistol Sports and Activities
Additional content will include:
- Proper cleaning and storage of pistols
- Pistol selection (based on student requirements)
- Other pertinent subjects based upon student questions
Course Length:
- This is a half day course – approximately 4 hours.
- (This includes all classroom and range time. Depending upon the number of students and their abilities, the course length may vary.)
Course Cost:
- The fee for this course is currently $50.00
Prerequisites
- There are no prerequisites for taking this course. Just arrive with an open mind and a positive attitude, ready to learn.
Course Completion
- Students will receive a course certificate.
- Participants will also receive constructive suggestions and coaching during the live fire exercises.
Other Information and common questions:
- Who may take this course? - Any person who is legally eligible to possess a pistol. (However, we do request that anyone under age 15 take the course with a parent or legal guardian.)
- What is the level of the course? – The course is perfect for the beginner or new pistol owner.
- This is a good class to take if you desire to get your Concealed Carry License and may qualify for 4 hours towards our COncealed carry class.
- (For those that have not acquired a pistol yet, all major calibers will be covered, as will many safe uses and activities. If you need a refresher, this is also an appropriate course for you.)
- Do I need to own a pistol to take this course? – No. There are a limited number of pistols available.
- Do I need to bring eye and ear protection to this course? – Yes, but if you forget, eye and ear protection will will be available.
- Does this course have a textbook? - Yes.
Description:
This Basic Pistol Course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. This course is 4 hours and includes both range and classroom work. Students will learn NRA's rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; cleaning and maintenance of the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. A course certification is issued upon completion.
